We didn't name The Bosky Dell.

We found its name.

After falling in love with the property and beginning to dream about what it might become, we discovered a plat from 1927 identifying this land as part of an area called Bosky Dell, alongside places with names like Mossy Brae, Hill of Home, and Sunny Slope.

It stopped us in our tracks.

Bosky is an old English word meaning wooded, leafy or shaded by trees.

A dell is a small, secluded valley or hollow.

A bosky dell, quite literally, is a wooded hollow.

Nearly a century later, it still describes this place beautifully.

Rather than creating a new name for the property, we decided to carry the old one forward.

And the little cottage nestled among the trees?

We're calling her Mossy Brae, another name found in the property's historic records. Brae is a Scots word for a hillside or slope—a wonderfully fitting name for the cottage and gardens that will become the first chapter of The Bosky Dell.
